Threat Modeling Center IR Signatures Engineer 1/2

The Threat Modeling Center (TMC) is responsible for the development of models and simulations (M&S) used to stimulate element models of the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS), including kinematic missile modeling, IR signature modeling, data production/analysis activities, and maintenance/sustainment activities for the entire TMC software baseline. The TMC is a cornerstone element to the Specialized Warfighter Development Contract (SWDC), as part of the MDA Engineering Directorate (DE) Task Order. The TMC is responsible for the development and delivery of high fidelity threat modeling products in support of the MDA’s BMDS.

Roles and Responsibilities include:
• Gain experience with threat model phenomenology with a focus on infrared radiation (IR) signatures modeling and simulation (M&S)
• Research into IR signature predictions and simulation models for rocket exhaust (IR plume) and post-boost thermal/optical emission (IR hardbody)
• Data production of IR plume and IR hardbody (IRHB) data sets used for Missile Defense Agency (MDA) M&S testing environments
• Coordinate with TMC Engineering for the development of software requirements for threat modeling tools used to create the IR signature models and data products
• Ensure transparency with the government customer, stakeholders, and TMC into the upcoming work of the M&S products
• Regular communication and briefings with stakeholders to understand requirements

This position requires a detail-oriented engineer that will be responsible for the creation of a high level of detail infrared radiation (IR) signature models for use in MDA Ground Test events, wargames, and exercises designed to simulate hardware in the loop (HWIL) testing of Overhead Persistent Infrared Radiation (OPIR) sensors and algorithms.

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:
• 0-2 Years with relevant Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline
• Experience with scripting/automation languages such as Python, Bash, or Matlab
• Ability to analyze and correlate large data sets; Attention to detail is necessary
• Ability to work independently and in groups equally well; must be a self-starter
• Must be results-focused, work well within a dynamic environment, be self-motivated, able to work in a team environment and be able to produce reliable products and documentation within established deadlines
• Excellent time management and schedule estimation skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Final DoD Secret clearance with current SSBI; or the ability to acquire a DoD Secret clearance (beginning with an interim)
• Must possess good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
• Experience with JANNAF plume codes for predictive signatures (SOCRATES-P, PERCORP, VIPER, US3D etc..)
• Experience with computation fluid dynamics (CFD) codebases for modeling and simulation of flow fields
• Machine learning or artificial intelligence algorithm programming experience
• Understanding of Modeling and Simulation (M&S), specifically for ballistic missile systems
• Knowledge of the flight characteristics, motion, atmospheric dynamics, and missile performance parameters necessary to model ballistic missiles is highly desirable. Strong math, physics or engineering background is preferred.
• Knowledge of software design and performance in IT infrastructures, networks and cloud solutions
• Experience with Atlassian products (Jira, Confluence)
• Current DoD Top Secret clearance with current SSBI (SCI eligibility)
