What is CMMC?
Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) 2.0 is a unified standard for implementing cybersecurity across the defense industrial base (DIB). CMMC is required for DoD contractors and subcontractors to safeguard controlled unclassified information (CUI) and ensure robust cyber defense.
The CMMC Final Rule and DFARS 252.204-7021 establish CMMC as a mandatory requirement for all new DoD contracts and went into effect on November 10, 2025. After the third year of the phased rollout, every contractor will have to be fully compliant. Many organizations require an independent assessment by a CMMC Third-Party Assessment Organization (C3PAO) – certifications are valid for three (3) years with continuous compliance requirements.
