TMC Kinematic Modeling Lead Engineer 3/4

Position Description / Other Requirements:

The Threat Modeling Center is responsible for the development and delivery of high fidelity threat modeling products in support of MDA and MDA’s Ballistic Missile Defense System. The Kinematic Modeling Lead Engineer role serves as a developer and verifier of kinematic threat models developed to support MDA. This position requires a detail-oriented mid-level engineer responsible for developing high fidelity ballistic missile and advanced threat models for use in a variety of modeling and simulation tools/framework/media.

Must have a good understanding of modeling and simulation methods and processes. Must be able to research, interpret and verify parameters required to build, replicate and propagate missile or space launch trajectories to include staging, debris, counter measures and RV / payload traits. Must be able to apply standard engineering and mathematical algorithms to ensure the accurate portrayal of expected missile or space launch behavioral characteristics during all phases of powered and un-powered flight. The selected individual must be able to work with little or no direct supervision, work as an integral member of a product delivery team, and meet time critical delivery schedules.

The Kinematic Modeling Lead coordinates the Missile Modeling/Kinematic Modeling team activities for day to day operations within TMC. This also involves serving as the customer-facing liaison for customer and internal communications, setting priorities of work and project planning amongst the team, maintenance of the model database, and extensive team management with delegation of tasking based on priorities.

Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Aeronautics, Physics, or Math
Level 3 – 5 Years of experience, 3 years with a masters
Level 4 – 9 Years of experience, 7 with a mast
Modeling, Simulation, and automation experience
Programming background to include languages such as MATLAB and Python
Strong knowledge of the flight characteristics, motion, and performance of ballistic missiles
Must be self-motivated, able to work in a dynamic team environment
Must already possess an active DoD Secret clearance

Preferred Requirements:
Strong math, physics or engineering background is preferred
Previous experience with modeling flight characteristics, motion, atmospheric dynamics, and missile performance parameters of ballistic missiles is highly desirable
Strong background in missile system engineering performance is highly desirable
Mastery of engineering modeling principles behind body motion, trajectory generation, countermeasures, and debris is a plus
Ability to obtain DoD Top Secret Clearance.
